We recently connected with Amos Hobson and have shared our conversation below.
Amos, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Yes my brand serves the community of creatives from all walk in life beginners to business owners have a place to go to learn create and grow. The art and entertainment industries are the most diverse but most over looked due to knock off or short cut practices like Ai or Template based art software. But there are some of us who went to school for art or entertainment where is the support for individuals like that. For myself I’m self taught because as a person who works in the IT field I saw these prototype softwares coming. For those who didn’t imagine being in school debt for something Ai could do with a push of button. My goal is to get creative ideas growing and thriving for the next 100 years because of we don’t band together to create then automation will replace us and creativity is a precious thing.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello my name is Amos Hobson. CEO of multiple companies but my main business and focus today is Black Diamond Authority. An organization that gives creatives a platform to grow and thrive without affects of social or economic factors. I got into the art industry as a self taught artist starting in middle school drawing everyday til high school originally wanting to create a multitude of comic book series. But didn’t know where to start so I decided to create artwork to sell to get my name out there but to build up the capital to start my first series. Then covid happened which turned the economy upside down for most creators with popups being stopped or held. I turned to YouTube for a couple years but didn’t know how to got about creating content. So I took a break and rebranded into an art studio for the community that I love. As 2025 is around the corner I’ll be rebranding one more time to blend my original concept with my current. To bring all art lovers together under the BDA family banner.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Funding the creative space is not easy for our industry grants are stiff on the idea of approving something you haven’t done first unlike other industries. While loans are a risky pathway because anything could happen during your startup that could put you in debt. Also the other headaches like taxes, inventory expenses, collaborations and labor also taxes your profit. Know what I know now in my 5th year I recommend three routes to take.
Bootstrapping- pull money from 9-5 or job doesn’t have to a lot just budget I took $500 a month for year and I made wonders happens with $6000 investment.
Crowdfunding- Find a product or project with high resell value or profit margin to you get people to help fund whoever donated give to them for free and tell them to promote the product and rest will have to purchase retail.
Friends and Family- Your Support Team maybe for bday , holidays and special occasions instead of personal gifts ask for business gifts or cash to help your business
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’m a solo serial entrepreneur and with that I get a lot of bashing and praise from my communities I fellowship with from my race , skillset, occupation, faith, social and society. With that being said the path I’ve chosen has been defined as I want to influence the world in a positive way. Which is why even though I might say art or entertainment industry i really see it as philanthropy of positive works turned into to world. From films, comic books, events and more these ventures affect the masses either positive or negative but the goal is to influence the world with my works. I grew up in the world with story’s of free thinkers but that’s where it stopped thinkers not doers or actual creators. My personal definition of a creator is someone who influenced an audience to feel a certain way to do an attended action. If my projects doesn’t make your change your view or actions that i failed but I won’t give up there’s always room for improvement.
